Generational Love

"Grandparents will always love their grandchildren more."

There is some truth to that statement. And I don't believe it is because they truly love them more. Rather, a grandparent loves a grandchild different. That is their greatest love - their children - making their own children and starting a new, familiar journey. That is a different kind of happiness that I did not fully understand until my parents met my daughter. A different smile and flood of emotions I hadn't seen before. It's the greatest gift we could ever give them.

Building a family is a beautiful thing. I never understood that. How one person - one child - can change everything. It's just one child, after all. Until you realize, the love you feel for your spouse is "just" one person, right? It changes everything. The family unit is considered your most important relationship for a reason. Family means more now that I get to teach my little one all about it.
